Baffinland is currently looking for its next best Heavy Duty Mechanic apprentice.
Candidates will join as trades assistants for six months, job shadowing and learning about their perspective trade. Upon successful completion of the six month introduction, candidates will write the Trades Entrance Exam.
Once enrolled in that program, candidates will become full time permanent apprentices at Baffinland. Below are listed the apprentice positions as well as a brief description of each position. The term of apprenticeship for a heavy duty equipment mechanic (off-road) is 3 years (three 12-month periods) including a minimum of 1500 hours of on-the-job training and 8 weeks of technical training each year.
To be considered you must meet the following requirements:
High school Graduate Certificate
OR a pass mark in all five Canadian General Educational Development (GED) tests
OR a successful completion of the trades entrance exam
OR a successful completion of the trade specific pre-apprenticeship program at Arctic College
