Baffinland is currently looking for a Certified Machinist / Millwright for Mary River Mine Site. This will be a rotation based role with a schedule of 2/2.

Main Accountabilities

  • Performing all tasks safely with capability of performing following procedures and policies set out by the employer
  • Measuring, machining, line boring, rebuilding, repairing and overhauling of equipment and facilitates as required.
  • The diagnosis and troubleshooting of equipment problems; identifying and replacing failed components, worn or broken parts, making all necessary adjustments and alignments and performing quality repairs.
  • Preventative maintenance focus with strong inspection skills and defect identification
  • Strong focus on housekeeping in the field, in the shop and any other work areas. Cleaning work areas and equipment as required.
  • Set up and safe operation of all machining equipment such as milling machines, lathes, line boring equipment, welding equipment, measuring tools etc.
  • Installation and removal of bearings, bushings, pins, and other machined components during overhauls using welding, gouging, installation equipment, hydraulic presses, pulling equipment, liquid nitrogen as well as any other tools associated with the tasks assigned.
  • Perform welding, grinding, gouging, bore rebuilding as required to complete tasks assigned
  • Using manual and laser alignment equipment, create detailed drawings, ensure machine tolerances are adhered to.
  • Actively participates in continuous improvement and reliability initiatives and programs.
  • Performs high quality work at all times with attention to detail.

Main Qualifications

  • A valid interprovincial Red Seal Certification as a Machinist/Millwright with a minimum of 5 years’ experience in repair and service of heavy equipment and facilities both in the shop and in the field Proven track record in safe work practices and quality workmanship
  • Ability to work alone and unsupervised in remote areas
  • Focused, energetic and organized with superior attention to detail and a sense of urgency
  • Excellent troubleshooting, measuring, drafting, computer use and diagnostic skills
  • Motivated and hard working with a professional attitude
  • Ability to understand and execute oral and written instructions and to interpret technical manuals and specifications.
  • Language: Speak English, Read English, Write English (Inuktitut would be an asset).
  • Motivated to work under harsh Arctic temperatures
  • Previous mining experience is an asset.
