Baffinland is currently seeking a seasoned Project Engineer to join the team. This will be a fixed term contract of One year with a possibility of extension. 

  • Manage Engineering and Process issues for the port area.
  • Bid and contract clarification and review
  • AFE Development

Main Accountabilities

  • Manage studies for process and equipment selection to enable clear evaluation and effective selection of best process and equipment
  • Manage the development of project cost estimates and schedules
  • Develop technical scope of work
  • Undertake bid evaluation and selection of contractors
  • Negotiate cost-effective agreements with contractors, in accordance with Baffinland standards
  • Monitor and manage Contractor / Consultants performance
  • Approve all contractor resources
  • Resolve contractor disputes and ensure contractor requirements are enforced in accordance with agreements
  • Manage the key deliverables for the development of the Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) and after issuance of EIS, comply with EIS
  • Make recommendation as a result of option study
  • Ensure options meet HSEC Management Standards and Fatal Risk Control Protocols (FRCP)
  • Engage Operations and incorporate input into option study
  • Undertake project controls activities including approval of invoices, negotiation of fees and multipliers, risk management
  • Provide monthly reports in relation to project scope, schedule and budget
  • Lead and develop culture of Zero Harm
  • Ensure HSEC Management Standards are incorporated in all work undertaken and supporting systems and procedures are in place
  • Ensure all work undertaken is consistent with Charter Values and Guide to Business Conduct
  • Ensure EWRM strategy is implemented to ensure risks are systematically identified and managed, backed by HSEC Risk Management Guidelines
  • Prepare and manage budgets for works to be carried out
  • Conduct analysis of activities and implement corrective action where deviation from approved plans and budgets occur


  • Provide functional cost-effective process plant and infrastructure


  • Ensure process selected provides best value for shareholders
  • Understand critical risks for all activities and implement control strategies

Major Challenges

  • Sourcing specialist high quality contractors and consultants to meet study schedule
  • Effective liaison with Operations to meet project needs

Main Qualifications

  • A degree in Minerals Processing Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering or Civil Engineering

Experience & Technical Competencies

  • Experience in related minerals processing operations role
  • Previous experience in conducting option studies
  • Experience in major projects desirable
  • Experience in the management of contractors to deliver schedule of works
  • Superior presentation skills
  • Proven financial evaluation skills
  • Understanding of project controls
  • Superior computer skills – using Microsoft Office suite 


  • English – spoken/written
