Currently Baffinland is looking for experienced Heavy Duty Equipment Technician to join their team on the Mary River Project. This position will report to the Maintenance Supervisor.


This is a permanent position based at site with a 2 week Fly-In, Fly-Out rotation.

Main Accountabilities


  • Preventative maintenance of heavy duty equipment (dozers, excavators, loaders, graders, crushers, container handlers, haul trucks, etc.)
  • Diagnose equipment problems, disassemble and reassemble components such as engines, transmissions, cooling systems, fuel and exhaust systems, clutch and differential by using all appropriate tools and following OEM and company procedures
  • Inspect, diagnose, repair, replace and test all components of gasoline and diesel internal combustion engines, engine starting systems, and steering and braking systems, clutches, hydraulic couplings, transmissions, transfer cases and axle assemblies, suspension systems, frames, wheels and tracks, winches, power take-offs, pneumatic or hydraulic pumps, booms, cables, blades and buckets, electrical components (alternators, distributors, starters, relays and solenoids, etc.)
  • Ensure that personal protective equipment is worn and safety standards are adhered to at all times
  • Provide verbal or written reports about maintenance, safety, or environmental issues to the Supervisor on a daily basis
  • Participate in meetings and provide suggestions that contribute to safety and productivity and improve processes and equipment

Main Qualifications


  • Valid Inter Provincial Red Seal Heavy Duty Technician Certification or Certified Journeyman Heavy Duty Mechanic
  • Applicants possess a high school diploma, GED or an equivalent combination of education and experience, (Diplomas and GED's must be accredited by a provincial board of education)
  • Experienced in the diagnostics, repair and preventative maintenance of heavy duty equipment
  • Strong computer skills and knowledge of CAT systems is a benefit
  • Ability to understand and execute oral and written instructions and to interpret technical manuals and specifications as well as schematics
  • Self-motivated and able to manage often changing and competing priorities in a fast-paced, deadline driven environment 
  • Analytical, organizational and communication skills
  • Language: Speak English, Read English, Write English (Inuktitut would be an asset)
  • Proven track record in safe work practices
  • Ability to work independently and within a team environment
  • Previous mining experience is an asset
