Currently Baffinland is looking for a Mine Technologist to join our Mine Operations Department at the Marry River Mine Site. This individual will be working alongside Mine Engineers, Surveyors and Geologists to assist with ongoing daily operations and improvement projects.  The role will report to the Senor Mining Engineer.

 

This is a permanent position based at site with a 2 week Fly-In, Fly-Out rotation.

 

 

Main Accountabilities

  • Daily production reporting.
  • Maintaining reporting databases.
  • Drill and blast design and continuous improvement.
  • Assist with short term mine planning.
  • Assist with end of month reporting.
  • Mine and road design.
  • Survey support and relief.
  • Stockpile inventory reporting.
  • Contribute to and participate in the development of and maintenance of safe work procedures for Mine Operations in order to achieve an increased level of health, safety and environmental awareness that will promote efforts for an injury free and environmentally responsible workplace

 

  • Environmental/Physical Demands:
  1. Work in extreme low temperatures down to minus 40 Celsius.
  2. Physically able to use all standard hand tools and lifting up to 25 kg.
  3. Operation of equipment for 12 hour long daily shifts for a two week period.

Main Qualifications

  • Diploma in Mining Engineering Technology or equivalent.
  • Minimum 3 years experience at an operating open pit mine.
  • Proficient in MineSight or similar mine design software.
  • Proficient in MS office suite of programs.
  • Survey knowledge and experience would be an asset.
  • Analytical thinking and interpretation of information.
  • Interested candidates must possess a valid driver’s license.
  • Arctic experience would be beneficial.
  • Experience working in remote mining camps.
  • Team player and positive attitude.
