Baffinland is currently looking for a Project Geoligist - One Year Maternity Leave contract.

 

NATURE AND SCOPE OF POSITION :

  • Field exploration; prospecting, geological mapping, geochemical surveys, geophysical surveys focused on discovery and expansion of potentially economic mineralization zones and subsequent definition of resources and reserves in support of mineral development.
  • Collection of relevant data, collation into database for the creation of information and knowledge to support mineral exploration activities.
  • Management and co-ordination of seasonal field teams to meet program objectives

Main Accountabilities

  • Main Area of Focus:

    • Field Exploration (prospecting, geological mapping, geochemical surveys)
    • Assist with planning and management of the drill, mapping, and reconnaissance traverse programs.
    • Database management and creation of maps, sections and plans for detailed interpretation of data and reporting requirements.
    • Assist with assessment and technical reporting.

    Mary River Site: Job Tasks and Responsibilities:

    • Regional and property scale geological mapping.
    • Reconnaissance traversing, including prospecting and sampling of mineral occurrences.
    • Geochemical surveying (including use of portable XRF)
    • Assist with management and execution of drill programs.
    • Logging and sampling of drill holes.

    Corporate Office: Job Task and Responsibilities:

    • Management and updating of the Exploration and Drill databases.
    • Processing and interpretation of field sampling, mapping, and drill results.
    • Production and updating of geological maps and related figures, and cross-sections through use of various software packages used by the company (Surpac, Geosoft, MapInfo, etc.).
    • Assist with planning of future Exploration field programs
    • Assist with preparation of Assessment and Technical reports.
    • Assist with preparation of presentations at Exploration and Mining conferences.

Main Qualifications

  • Must have completed a degree in Geology / Earth Sciences from a recognized post-secondary institution.
  • Must be physically fit to perform field work over rough terrain in remote areas.
  • Strong ability to work cooperatively in a team environment.
  • Excellent communication skills (written, oral, cross-cultural.
  • At least 3 – 5 years previous exploration field experience is required.
  • Hold or be able to attain a valid standard First Aid + CPR certificate.
  • Hold or be able to obtain a valid site driver’s license.
  • Registration as a Professional Geologist (PGeo) is an asset.
  • Firearms Possession and Acquisition License (PAL) is an asset
