The Human Resources Advisor provides direct support to employees in all facets of HR activity and interfaces with the corporate office roles. This role has a strong emphasis on building and maintaining positive, culturally aware, harmonious workplace relations. Provide consultative and business focused services to the business leaders and managers.  Additional responsibilities include administering policies and procedures relating to all phases of Human Resources, including: recruitment support, payroll and benefits administration, personnel records, employee relations, and management of human resource policies, utilizing corporate HR specialty areas to meet the changing needs of our business and company. 

Main Accountabilities

  • Coordinate the recruitment, selection and onboarding processes when bringing in new talent to the organization as well as deploying talent throughout the organization.  Duties will include providing recommendations for additional manpower to support operational requirements, working with recruiting specialists where appropriate, conducting interviews and extending offers. 
  • Works closely with the hiring managers and recruiting specialists to support hiring requests; provide recommendations for additional manpower to support operational requirements.  Leads the local execution of the talent management strategy, including programs for attracting, retaining and ensuring mobility of high quality talent at all levels. 
  • Administer the group benefits program.  Responsible for outlining the complete program to all new hires, answering and providing direction to employees questions, submitting and resolving benefit claims, and providing communication meetings for the re-enrollment process.  Responsible for communicating and implementing policies and procedures.
  • Gain a thorough understanding of Nunavut labour and employment legislation as it pertains to mining. Provide guidance and support on Employee Relations issues in line with applicable legislation
  • Participate with or lead Continuous Improvement Projects for HR
  • Facilitate communication with workplace parties to resolve issues; provide advisory support on complex queries or issues along the entire employee lifecycle
  • Help develop and implement strategic HR projects including employee engagement, workforce planning, talent management, leadership development, career management, etc.  Openly listen and respond to employee and manager questions, issues or concerns and recommend appropriate actions to address them. 
  • Assist with the training and education of the performance management system and global employee development program
  • Conduct exit interviews and provide analysis on data
  • Complete new employee on-boarding including ensuring data accuracy of new hires in SAP and completion of all relevant forms/documents
  • HR data consolidation and reporting
  • Provide a proactive HR service, keeping people informed of site and corporate HR initiatives
  • Other duties as assigned.

Main Qualifications

  • An understanding of mining operations  or industrial/construction workplaces
  • College diploma in Human Resources or extensive relevant work related experience
  • A minimum of 3 years of experience in a generalist role; FIFO or remote site operations experience an asset
  • Excellent organizational, oral and written communication skills
  • Competent user of Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint applications; exposure to and familiarity with SAP is an asset
  • Adaptable, willing to learn, self-motivated and fair
  • Experience with far north cold climate environments is an asset
  • SAP, ICIMS
