This position is located at site with a 2 week Fly-In, Fly-Out rotation.

Main Accountabilities



  • Monitor condition and ensure preventative maintenance of all equipment and infrastructure as directed and advise and act on areas to be improved while ensuring compliance to all applicable work standards.
  • Ensure urgent breakdown repairs are attended to adequately and in a timely manner by all employees or contractors under their direction.
  • Lead and organize structured routine safety inspections, perform job observations, and any other interventions or initiatives as directed and/or in cooperation with Senior Management.
  • Ensure full cooperation and communication between the maintenance section and all other sections at all times.
  • Provide clear directions to contractors and all employees to ensure they adhere to plans and focus on operational priorities.
  • Identify opportunities for continuously improving of maintenance processes and systems, put measures in place to improve deficiencies, and track improvements as required to follow through on improvement initiatives.
  • Complete reports and perform record keeping as required and directed, while making sure all subordinates do the same.
  • Perform QA/QC assessments to identify substandard or poor quality workmanship of employees and all contractors. Put control measures in place to improve quality of work being performed while monitoring and tracking improvements to ensure standards and equipment requirements are met.
  • Work effectively with reliability and continuous improvement departments to implement programs, monitor improvements and initiate a RCM and continuous improvement culture in the workforce to share information and prioritize initiatives.
  • Work closely with the procurement department to properly prioritize all required parts and materials requested by subordinates to ensure all materials are delivered when required to maintain equipment availability targets.
  • Report, verify and track employee and contractor work hours. Identify and act on discrepancies to work schedules.
  • Ensure proper data is provided by the section including all contractors.
  • Monitor, verify and input equipment KPIs and act on areas not in compliance to achieve operational targets.
  • Mentor, communicate effectively and provide solid direction to the maintenance planners concerning task organization, parts requirements, task duration, manpower schedules, and accurate equipment maintenance requirements.
  • Monitor compliance to plan and put measures in place to adhere to plans.
  • Carry out and document department meetings, daily tool box talks, formal field level risk assessments, safety meetings, routine and statutory inspections, layered inspections/audits and planned task observations as required.
  • Ensure proper field level risk assessments are performed and documented before task commencement for all employees.
  • Spearhead the development, implementation and adherence to safe work procedures and promote high safety, health and environmental awareness and procedure compliance.
  • Ensure appropriate instructions are provided to the workforce to achieve legal compliance, incident prevention and the achievement of tasks are done in a safe and environmentally sustainable manner.
  • Preparation of scopes with targets and monitoring performance to plan to achieve scope requirements. Advise and implement corrective measures for employees and contractors to achieve targets.
  • Ensure effective communication with all other supervisors, especially during shift and rotational changes to provide consistent task completion with limited interruptions
  • Will work shift work as directed and required by the operation which may at times include night shift coverage and/or call outs when required.
  • Ensure compliance to planned maintenance schedules, obtain and create service reports, close work orders, create requisitions and any other functions required to maintain compliance to plan, manage equipment backlog and track all work performed by employees and contractors as required.
  • Investigate non-conformances/compliances thoroughly and administer disciplinary action when required in conjunction with the management group.
  • Ensure all safety and fire prevention systems on all equipment are operating correctly, perform pre PM inspections and perform pre-release inspections to ensure quality maintenance practices and that all safety and fire prevention systems are operating as designed. 

Main Qualifications

  • Welding, machining and fabrication experience required with an emphasis on equipment, structural and ground engaging tool maintenance best practices and procedure development and compliance.
  • 10+ years of senior mine maintenance organizational experience with a minimum of 5 years in a Superintendent role in a large open pit mining environment.
  • Post- Secondary education (College or University) along with a minimum of an interprovincial Red Seal Certification of Competency in a field related to mobile equipment maintenance is required.
  • Previous Arctic and remote site experience along with SAP maintenance systems efficiency would be beneficial.
  • Previous experience working with employees of all competency levels in remote mining camps as well as developing individuals with minimal experience performing maintenance in a mining environment is beneficial.
  • Extensive experience mentoring, providing solid direction and safety leadership to entire maintenance groups and contractors under their direction in harsh arctic environments in the field and workshops.
  • Extensive experience performing and organizing all maintenance activities and logistics for maintenance being performed on Cat 6030 face shovels, MD6290 drills, 777G trucks, 14H/14M/16H/16M Motor graders, D6/D9T/D10T TT tractors, 390D/320D/345D Excavators, 992K/988H/950/930 Wheel loaders, 740B Articulated trucks, Skid steers, Telehandlers, Sandvik DX800 drills, Terex/Grove Cranes, man lifts and Western Star 6900XD Tractors with B-Train trailers.
