Mission for this Position

Baffinland is currently looking for an experienced Community, Government and Stakeholder Relations expert to support and lead initiative’s required to meet our obligations under agreements, foster meaningful community and stakeholder communications, establish solid records of engagement and meet reporting requirements.

Main Accountabilities

  • Support the Director of Inuit, Government and Stakeholder Relations in IIBA negotiations;
  • Participate in the IIBA Joint Management Committee and other committees as required;
  • Develop and execute consultation initiatives;
  • Maintain consultation database;
  • Manage reporting requirements under IIBA and provide support in the preparation of other required reports;
  • Support IIBA  Coordination Manager, and Northern Affairs Manager and BCLOs;
  • Manage production and translation of presentation materials and community information materials;
  • Provide support to the Director in the implementation of various provisions of the IIBA;
  • Liase with QIA with respect to issues associated with the IIBA;
  • Review of policies and procedures respecting the IIBA as well as stakeholder relations;
  • Liaise with federal and territorial governments respecting Baffinland’s operations;
  • Act as Oakville main point of contact for operational issues related to Inuit employees;
  • Recording and tracking of corporate sponsorships and donations to the communities;
  • Assistance in the preparation of IIBA implementation budgets;
  • Provision of advice on an as-needed basis in relation to Inuit and stakeholder issues;
  • Coordinate and manage travel logistics for community tours and site visits.

Main Qualifications

  • 8-10 years of experience working with Northern communities, preferably in Nunavut;
  • Strong understanding of remote operations specifically in heavy industrial applications;
  • Proven ability to work effectively in a cross-cultural environment;
  • Able to deliver complex projects with little supervision;
  • Highly organized and attentive to detail;
  • Ability to use standard office software and specialized consultation tracking software.
  • Ability to meet deadlines;
  • Ability to form strong relationships with stakeholders
  • Must be able to travel as required
