We are currently looking for our next great employee. Baffinland Iron Mines is seeking a Health and Safety Coordinator to join our team on site on a permanent basis. The selected candidate will be responsible for helping to implement a Health and Safety management system

 

 

 

Health and Safety Coordinator

 

The purpose of the health and Safety role is to Work proactively with project team and contractors to establish and maintain a system that promotes a strong safety culture across the project and eventually into operations.

 

Please note: this is a permanent position requiring a 2 week Fly - In, Fly-Out Rotation

 

 

 

Main Accountabilities

 

  • Responsible  for the development, implementation and maintenance of safety and health policies, programs, and procedures
  • Responsible for monitoring adherence to the company safety requirements by all site personnel
  • Ensure that investigations into injuries,accidents and unsafe acts and conditions are properly conducted, causal factors identified and appropriate corrective actions identified 
  • Conduct health and safety audits, risk assessments,reviews,and inspections
  • Maintain and report on safety and health records and statistics
  • Conduct training and provide presentations to work crews and management on safe work practices
  • Mentor site personnel by providing instruction and direction to ensure a positive and qualitative performance is achieved

Main Qualifications

  • Diploma or Certification in Industrial Safety and Health and/or an equivalent of an industrial work experience (preferably mining), working knowledge and education in safety and health disciplines with 3 to 5 years of Safety & Health experience
  • Experience in a cross-cultural work environment
  • Demonstrable safety and business acumen and management potential
  • Excellent organizational and verbal and written communication skills are essential
  • Strong employee relation skills and the ability to supervise a safety & health team ensuring individual and team objectives are achieved
