    Job Title: MINE GEOLOGIST (6 months fixed term)


    Job Introduction:


    Baffinland is currently seeking a Mine Geologist to join our Mine Operations Department at the Marry River Mine Site on a fixed term basis starting with a 6 month contract.


    This individual will be working among the site based technical team providing coordination, planning and geology services to mine operations. The Senior Geologist will be responsible for assuming a strategic role in leadership and direction of all geological activities. The role will report to the Senior Geologist.


    This is a position based at site with a 2 week Fly-In, Fly-Out rotation.

    Main Accountabilities

    • Ensure daily ore control, mapping, sampling, QA/QC, and ore dilution controls are in place and comply with operating standard procedures.
    • Achieve/exceed production quality and quantity targets while maximizing economic resource recovery;
    • Update and maintain geologic models of the ore reserves
    • Contributes to the implementation of new systems/processes and provides guidance, auditing, mentoring, and analysis support to the management team
    • Meet objectives and comply with; safety plans, incident reporting process, policy/procedure reviews, MOC process, etc.
    • Provide support to various groups including Mine Operations, Mine Engineering, Port and Environmental.
    • Ensure alignment of Geology goals with the organizational objectives and goals
    • Port stockpile reclaim planning for shiploading and assisting Operations with planning and coordination for stockpile reclaim
    • Assist in Geotechnical inspections, hazard identification, and controls within the Mine and Quarries
    • Contribute to and participate in the development of and maintenance of safe work procedures for Mine Operations in order to achieve an increased level of health, safety and environmental awareness that will promote efforts for an injury free and environmentally responsible workplace.

    Environmental/Physical Demands:


    1. Work in extreme low temperatures down to minus 40 Celsius.
    2. Lifting up to 25 kg.
    3. 12 hour long daily shifts for a two week period.

    Main Qualifications

    • Bachelor's degree in Geology
    • Professional Geologist registered in Nunavut (or with the capability to register)
    • Minimum 4 years of Mine Geology experience in an open pit mine
    • Iron Ore experience will be highly regarded
    • Proficient in MineSight or similar mine design software
    • Strong verbal and written communication skills
    • Team player and positive attitude
    • Interested candidates must possess a valid driver’s license
    • Arctic experience would be beneficial
    • Experience working in remote mining camps
    • Experience working with aboriginal people and communities would be an asset
