    Currently Baffinland Iron Mines is looking for a Mine Engineer - Long Term Planning to lead the technical team on the Mary River Project. We are seeking a dynamic individual who will be responsible to take part in, as well as plan, administer and coordinate the technical team to meet the objectives of the mine while maximizing the economic mining life of the Mines through prudent recovery of existing known resources.



    The job is based at the Corporate office in Oakville (Monday to Frinday) but will be based initially at the Mary River site for 3 months (2 week Fly in Fly out).

    Main Accountabilities

    • Develop and maintain 5-year and life of mine plans in coordination with the Mine Department
    • Production scenarios and associated equipment requirements
    • Analyze mine performance data, develop and maintain KPI’s as required to develop long term mine plans and production scenarios
    • Oversee specialized projects requiring the application of engineering knowledge.
    • Design and schedule pit, stockpiles, dumps and roads that incorporate legislated, company and best practice standards
    • Ensure the technical group is delivering the desired service to the operation
    • Expand the capability of the area of accountability, to achieve continuous improvement, while balancing the allocation of resources, meeting quantity and quality output requirements for the internal and/or external "Customers".
    • Work collaboratively to assemble MRMR document consistent with NI 43-101 and SEC regulations.
    • Contribute to the implementation of new systems/processes and provides guidance, auditing and analysis support to the management team.
    • Support development of the department's annual execution plan and develops area specific, goals and objectives
    • Participation in the design, planning and execution of sustaining and growth capital projects required to support the operation
    • Other duties as required

    Main Qualifications

    • Mining or Civil Engineer
    • Mining Experience, 4 years
    • Open Pit Mining Experience
    • Professional Engineer preferred, registered in Ontario or Nunavut (or ability to register)
    • Proficient with Mining Planning Software (Minesight, Whittle, XPAC)
    • Microsoft Office (Excel, Word and Powerpoint)
    • Microsoft Project
    • Strong communication skills (written and oral)
    • Work effectively with employees at all levels of the company, as well as with contractors, suppliers and customers
    • Well organized
