    We are currently looking for our next great employee. Baffinland has an opening for a Reliability Superintendent to provide Reliability Engineering within the Operational Excellence department. This is an excellent opportunity to join one of the most exciting and remote Mining projects in Canada. 

     

    Please note: This is a permanent position requiring a 2 week Fly-in, Fly-out rotation. 

     

    Main Accountabilities

    • Support BIM operations through priorities set by General Managers
    • Support the reliability & Operational Manager to develop BIM reliability and Operational Excellence Systems
    • Implement Lean Manufacturing within the site
    • Organize and manage reliability and continuous improvement projects from initial concept development to final commissioning and project close-out.
    • Develop project budget and schedule forecasts, monitor project performance and implement appropriate corrective actions to ensure adherence to plan
    • Manage project scope to prevent creep and strictly adhere to the project change management process.
    • Assess project risks, and develop appropriate risk control and mitigation strategies
    • Evaluate project management process performance and recommend lessons learned and process improvements as needed.
    • Introduced lean manufacturing concepts including 5S, Value stream Mapping, TPM, Cell Layout and Line Balancing Kanban systems and Kaizen Events Etc.
    • Help develop employees’ s lean skills through effective coaching, teaching, mentoring and simulated work environmental training
    • Facilitate and lead team activities and rapid improvement events as required
    • Conduct observations and analyze data including downtime, cycle time analysis, etc. in order to bring recommendations for improvement opportunities forward to the team
    • Track, communicates and shares results and lessons learned – ensures successes are published and communicated to all employees
    • Identify sources of information, possible interfaces and detailed process descriptions
    • Assist in interpreting facts and information gathered to understand current state and defined future states
    • Build, sustain and leverage day to day relationships and communications with partners and individuals within area of immediate responsibility to contribute to business development
    • Focus upon process improvements to enhance productivity, increase revenue, enhance safety and reduce cost, consistent with the strategic direction of the company.
    • Work with regional and mine site leadership and multi-functional teams to identify, develop, execute and complete selected improvements projects
    • Act as a change agent to instill an operational excellence, performance improvement culture throughout the organization

    Secondary Duties and Responsibilities:

    • Present findings formally to Senior and Executive Management teams
    • Develop an AM network
    • Perform benchmarking activities
    • Develop equipment and component standards and performance requirements as required
    • Perform various project administration tasks, including coordinating meetings, taking meeting minutes, forwarding communication releases, and perform maintenance of project tracking logs (i.e. issues, change control, etc) in order to satisfy project management processes
    • Other duties as assigned.

    Main Qualifications

    • Degree in Mechanical or Structural Engineering with 15+ years industry experience
    • Minimum 5 years of experience running projects in a mining environment
    • Strong experience in maintenance and reliability engineering required
    • Experience in business process design and re-engineering
    • Experience in operations and/or maintenance is required
    • Experience in successfully leading to completion, mid to large scale transformations of complex business processes resulting in significant and sustainable results
    • Experience with developing and reviewing process methodology and tools
    • Significant experience designing workshops, facilitating group sessions and work with teams and gain crucial input from key contributors
    • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft suite required
    • Experience in open pit mining preferred, Arctic experience beneficial
    • Experience using SAP maintenance system and Pi is required
    • Strategic thinking and understanding of critical issues related to mining

    Functional/Technical Skills

    • Excellent relationship management skills: listening, diplomacy, patience and negotiation
    • Management ability to lead a team of 5 professional employees
    • Demonstrated ability to partner with cross functional groups to successfully manage project deliverables
    • Demonstrated ability to lead teams of subject matter experts through all phases of process redesign (mobilization, current state assessment, best practices, future state visioning/strategy, blueprinting, implementation and metrics development)
    • Exceptional analytical skills at both strategic and functional levels
    • Data manipulation and analysis techniques including trend and statistical analysis
    • Proven ability to lead and work through others without direct reporting relationship to achieve business goals utilizing persuasion and influencing skills
    • Knowledge in organizational design and change management principles and methodologies
    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with all levels of the organization
    • Six Sigma Green Belt or Black Belt is desirable
    • Understand reliability and maintenance concepts
