    Currently Baffinland is looking for a Senior Mining Engineer to join their team on the Mary River Project. 

     

    This is a permanent position based at site with a 2 week fly-in, fly-out rotation.

    Main Accountabilities

    • Provide technical and operational input into mine plans to ensure that the operational scope is met.
    • Meet objectives and comply with; safety plans, incident reporting process, policy/procedure reviews, MOC process, etc.
    • Develop innovative opportunities to improve the efficiency of operations.  Ensure the team is delivering the desired service to the operation.  
    • Mentor team members and ensure the appropriate skills, competencies and experience within the team are identified and ensure appropriate training and assessment is in order for employees to competently, safely and productively perform all aspects of their role.  This applies to the Mine Engineering, Mine Technician and Surveying roles.
    • Prepare medium term mine plans from pit to port and assist in development of the operational budgeting and forecasting.
    • Drive continuous improvement in blasting practices.
    • Undertake daily, weekly, monthly and annual production performance reporting and analysis,
    • Contributes to the implementation of new systems/processes and provides guidance, auditing, mentoring, and analysis support to the Superintendent of Engineer & Geology.
    • Contribute to and participate in the development of and maintenance of safe work procedures for Mine Operations in order to achieve an increased level of health, safety and environmental awareness that will promote efforts for an injury free and environmentally responsible workplace.

    Environmental/Physical Demands:

    1. Work in extreme low temperatures down to minus 40 Celsius.
    2. Physically able to use all standard hand tools and lifting up to 25 kg.
    3. Operation of equipment for 12 hour long daily shifts for a two week period.

    Main Qualifications

    • Bachelor's degree in Mining Engineering
    • Professional Engineer registered in Nunavut (or with the capability to register).
    • 5-7 years of open pit mining experience with experience in a supervisory role an asset.
    • Experience in Iron Ore will be highly regarded
    • Arctic experience would be beneficial.
    • Experience working with aboriginal groups and communities would be an asset.
    • Experience working in remote mining camps.
