    Currently Baffinland is looking for experienced Heavy Duty Equipment Technician to join their team on the Mary River Project. This position will report to the Maintenance Supervisor.


    This is a permanent position based at site with a 2 week Fly-In, Fly-Out rotation.

    Main Accountabilities

    • Performing all tasks safely with capability of performing and following all procedures and policies set out by the employer
    • The disassembly/overhaul of engines or engine components, axles, brakes, suspensions, transmissions, drive and steering systems components and other assemblies and components as required
    • The diagnosis and troubleshooting of equipment problems; identifying and replacing failed components, worn or broken parts, making all necessary adjustments and alignments and performing quality repairs.
    • Preventative maintenance focus with strong inspection and defect identification skills
    • Strong focus on housekeeping in the field, in the shop and any other work areas. Cleaning work areas and equipment as required.
    • Extensive experience performing maintenance on Cat 6030 face shovels, MD6290 drills, 777G trucks, 14H/14M/16H/16M Motorgraders, D6/D9T/D10T TT tractors, 390D/320D/345D Excavators, 992K/988H/950/930 Wheel loaders, 740B Articulated trucks, Skidsteers, Telehandlers as well as Sandvik DX800 drills, Terex/Grove Cranes and Western Star 6900XD Tractors with B-Train trailers. Experience with Sandvik Mobile Crushers and screens will be advantageous.
    • Welding, cutting, grinding, measuring, calibration, diagnostics and troubleshooting (using OEM software) experience required.
    • Using alignment equipment, completing service reports/work orders and equipment inspections as required.
    • Actively participates in continuous improvement and reliability initiatives and programs.

    Performs high quality work at all times with strong attention to detail.

    Main Qualifications

    • A valid interprovincial Red Seal Certification as a Heavy Equipment Mechanic with experience maintaining equipment in a remote arctic environment.
    • Proven track record in safe work practices and quality workmanship
    • Ability to work alone and unsupervised in remote areas
    • Focused, energetic and organized with superior attention to detail and a sense of urgency
    • Excellent troubleshooting, diagnostics, failure mode analysis and defect identification skills
    • Motivated and hard working with a professional attitude
    • Ability to understand and execute oral and written instructions and to interpret technical manuals and specifications.
    • Language: Speak English, Read English, Write English (Inuktitut would be an asset).
    • Motivated to work under harsh Arctic temperatures
    • Previous mining experience is an asset.
