  • Mission for this Position

    Reporting to the Human Resources Superintendent, the Human Resources Advisor provides direct front line support to staff and managers in all facets of HR activity on site and as it interfaces with the corporate office roles. This role has a strong emphasis on building and maintaining positive, culturally aware, harmonious workplace relations at the mine site.

    Main Accountabilities

    • Provide Frontline support to staff in day to day HR operational requirements
    • Ensure HR presence at site by attending morning line-ups, tool box meetings and social activities that increase HR exposer to the work crews and understanding of the issues and concerns facing all staff
    • Elevate any identified issues in a timely and effective manner to ensure small matters do not become barriers to effective and efficient productivity
    • Gain a thorough understanding of Nunavut labour and employment legislation as it pertains to mining. Provide guidance and support on Employee Relations issues in line with applicable legislation
    • Provide support as business partner to the HR Superintendent(s); act as 2IC in his/her absence
    • Participate in Continuous Improvement Projects for HR
    • Provide best practice advice and support/coaching to management and employees during disciplinary investigations, conflict resolution sessions and termination of employment
    • Facilitate communication with workplace parties to resolve issues; provide advisory support on complex queries or issues along the entire employee lifecycle
    • Support Managers by providing appropriate tools, techniques and insights on people management
    • Assist with the training and education of the performance management system
    • Conduct exit interviews and provide analysis on data
    • Complete new employee on-boarding including ensuring data accuracy of new hires in SAP and completion of all relevant forms/documents
    • HR data consolidation and reporting
    • Be a courageous safety leader; adhere to and sponsor safety and environmental rules and procedure compliance to site OHS standards as well as participating in safety initiatives, hazard identification, tool box meetings and incident investigations where required
    • Support Absence Management process for the company and communicate with the respective departments and stakeholders
    • Participate in interview for internal transfers
    • Works closely with the hiring managers and recruiting specialists to support hiring requests; provide recommendations for additional manpower to support operational requirements.
    • Administer the group benefits program.  Responsible for outlining the complete program to all new hires, answering and providing direction to employees questions, submitting and resolving benefit claims, and providing communication meetings for the re-enrollment process.  Responsible for advising and assisting management with understanding of company policies and procedures.
    • Gain a thorough understanding of Nunavut labour and employment legislation as it pertains to mining. Provide guidance and support on Employee Relations issues in line with applicable legislation
    • Facilitate communication with workplace parties to resolve issues; provide advisory support on complex queries or issues along the entire employee lifecycle
    • Provide a proactive HR service, keeping people informed of site and corporate HR initiatives
    • Other duties as assigned

    Main Qualifications

    • An understanding of mining operations  or industrial/construction workplaces
    • College diploma in Human Resources or extensive relevant work related experience
    • A minimum of 5 years of experience in a generalist role; FIFO or remote site operations experience an asset
    • Excellent organizational and communication skills
    • Competent user of Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint applications; exposure to and familiarity with SAP is an asset
    • Adaptable, willing to learn, self-motivated and fair
    • Experience with far north cold climate environments is an asset
