    Baffinland is currently looking for its next best Oil Heat Systems Technician Apprentice. 

     

    Candidates will join as trades assistants for six months, job shadowing and learning about their perspective trade. Upon successful completion of the six month introduction, candidates will write the Trades Entrance Exam. 

     

    Once enrolled in that program, candidates will become full time permanent apprentices at Baffinland.   To apply, please go online and submit your resume to the position you are interested in or apply through a Baffinland Community Liaison Officer. Priority will be given to Inuit candidates.

    Main Accountabilities

    • On new installations, they may design, assemble and install the heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) systems
    • Install oil burner components such as control devices and associated wiring, install fuel supply systems and connect the plumbing to mechanical and electrical systems.
    • They may also install, maintain and repair wood/oil heating systems
    • Service calls and emergency calls may take place anytime: days, evenings or weekends.
    • Oil burner mechanics must have good mechanical aptitude, problem solving skills
    • Oil burner mechanics must continually upgrade their skills to become proficient with new products and equipment introduced into the industry.
    • Testing efficiencies are more easily realized with the introduction of computerized sensors, electronic and digital controls.

    Main Qualifications

    The Apprentice Oil Heat SystemsTechnician  is only available to registered apprentices and placement into the program is made through a Regional Apprenticeship Officer or local Career Development Officer.

     

    To be considered you must meet the following requirements:

    • Completing the Essential Skills program at Mary River Mine site.
    • Successful completion of the Level 4 Trades Entrance Exam is required those entering this trade.
    • Approved registration by apprenticeship in the skilled trade following success of the trades entrance exam.
    • Following the rules outlined by Baffinland and Apprenticeship for the entire duration of the program until completion
