    Job Title: MINING EINGEER, SHORT TERM PLANNING

     

    Job Introduction:

     

    Currently Baffinland Iron Mines is looking for a Mine Engineer to join their team on the Mary River Project. We are seeking a dynamic individual who will be responsible for the development of mine plans, extraction sequencing and engineering design work in the open pit operation.                                        

     

    This position is located at site with a 2 week Fly-In, Fly-Out rotation.

    Main Accountabilities

    • Provide assistance and guidance to mine operations, mine geology and survey staff in the execution of mine plans.
    • Provide mine engineering services including, blast, dump and road designs.
    • Develop potential strategies based on operating data to affect cost reduction and/or improve operational effectiveness.
    • Develop short term mining plans and schedules (<1 year)
    • Oversee specialized projects requiring the application of engineering knowledge.
    • Design blasts, stockpiles, dumps and roads that incorporate legislated, company and best practice standards
    • Ensure safe behaviors' are exhibited by all team members. Consistently assess and reducing risk and take corrective action when necessary.
    • Meet objectives and comply with; safety plans, incident reporting process, policy/procedure reviews, MOC process, etc.
    • Support development of the Life of Mine production plan.  Ensure preparation of scheduled production forecasts.
    • Develop innovative opportunities to improve the efficiency of operations. 
    • Ensure the technical group is delivering the desired service to the operation  
    • Expand the capability of the area of accountability, to achieve continuous improvement, while balancing the allocation of resources, meeting quantity and quality output requirements for the internal and/or external “Customers”.
    • Mentor and provide performance feedback to team members.
    • Work collaboratively to assemble MRMR document consistent with NI 43-101 and SEC regulations.
    • Develop and recommend mining plans and ground support systems
    • Contribute to the implementation of new systems/processes and provides guidance, auditing and analysis support to the management team.        
    • Support development of the department's annual execution plan and develops area specific, goals and objectives
    • Support geological data transfer between the lab and operations.

     

    • Environmental/Physical Demands: 

                        Work in extreme low temperatures down to minus 40 Celsius.
                        Physically able to use all standard hand tools and lifting up to 25 kg.
                       Operation of equipment for 12 hour long daily shifts for a two week period.

    Main Qualifications

    • Bachelor's degree in Mining or Civil Engineering.
    • Professional Engineer registered in Nunavut (or with the capability to register).
    • 4 years of mining experience with at least 2 years in a field role.
    • Arctic experience would be beneficial.
    • Experience working with aboriginal people and communities would be an asset.
    • Experience working in remote mining camps.
