    Baffinland is currently looking for its next best Millwright Apprentice. 


    Candidates will join as trades assistants for six months, job shadowing and learning about their perspective trade. Upon successful completion of the six month introduction, candidates will write the Trades Entrance Exam. 


    Once enrolled in that program, candidates will become full time permanent apprentices at Baffinland.   To apply, please go online and submit your resume to the position you are interested in or apply through a Baffinland Community Liaison Officer. Priority will be given to Inuit candidates.

    Main Accountabilities

    • Read diagrams and schematic drawings and service manuals to determine work procedures.
    • Operate rigging equipment and dollies to place heavy machinery and parts.
    • Fit bearings, align gears and shafts, attach motors, and connect couplings and belts to precise tolerances.
    • Align and test equipment, and make any necessary adjustments.
    • Perform predictive and operational procedures.
    • Repair or replace defective parts.
    • Service and repair hydraulic and pneumatic systems.
    • May be required to do some welding.

    Main Qualifications

    The Apprentice Millwright is only available to registered apprentices and placement into the program is made through a Regional Apprenticeship Officer or local Career Development Officer.


    To be considered you must meet the following requirements:

    • Completing the Essential Skills program at Mary River Mine site.
    • Successful completion of the Level 4 Trades Entrance Exam is required those entering this trade.
    • Approved registration by apprenticeship in the skilled trade following success of the trades entrance exam.
    • Following the rules outlined by Baffinland and Apprenticeship for the entire duration of the program until completion
