    Currently Baffinland is looking for an accomplished Long Term and Projects Mobile Maintenance Planner to join our team on a permanent basis.


    This position reports to the Mobile Maintenance Superintendent.


    The Long Term and Projects Mobile Maintenance Planner is responsible for the development, implementation, coordination and maintenance of comprehensive maintenance and servicing plans for Baffinland’s mobile equipment fleet. Extensive use of planning and scheduling tools such as maintenance management systems, historical record monitoring and use of office software is required.


    They will provide coordination between equipment owners, materials management, execution teams, contractors and supervisors as well as the management teams to facilitate the implementation of maintenance plans.


    This position is located at site with a 2 week Fly-In, Fly-Out rotation.



    Main Accountabilities

    • Ensure proper JHAs and field level risk assessments are performed and documented before task commencement for all employees and contractors under their direction. Interact with all employees to ensure hazards and risks in their area are eliminated or reduced to acceptable levels to accomplish tasks.
    • Work closely with the procurement department to properly prioritize all required parts and materials requested by subordinates, projects teams and the execution teams to ensure all materials are delivered when required to maintain equipment availability targets and to achieve project and plan deadlines
    • Ensure all lifting equipment, safety and fire prevention systems on all equipment are planned, documented properly and that they are operating correctly while also ensuring quality maintenance practices are performed to comply to all standards.
    • Creates strategic and integrated work plans and schedules to achieve maintenance and service objectives including but not limited to major component changes, routine servicing, preventative maintenance, major and minor repairs component changes and rebuilds, equipment commissioning, project execution and other specific interventions as directed.
    • Prepares and distributes detailed work plans to equipment owners and execution team. They will act as a contact, facilitator and problem solver concerning the execution of the plan and monitor/track plans as well as put measures in place to eliminate noncompliance to plans where they will initiate plan improvements and changes where required.
    • Ensure SAP data entry integrity, monitor historical records and data to forecast labor, materials and supplies, facility space, time, tooling and other resource requirements for plan execution.
    • Participates in the maintenance and development of workforce schedules to meet plan objectives while ensuring utilized maintenance and repair resources are used effectively. Identify anomalies, prepares budget data, historical data analysis, forecasts and other information to support the service delivery programs and put measures in place to ensure compliance to plan where anomalies exist.
    • Communicate daily with Maintenance Supervisors, parts coordinators, contractors, equipment owners, and other key personnel to coordinate plans, identify needs, and plan priorities and adjust plan as required. Respond to unforeseen circumstances, initiates changes to plans and schedules, and determine when additional resources are required to accomplish objectives.
    • Chair planning meetings with all departments as directed to communicate work plans and schedules as well as act on equipment owner concerns and requirements
    • Monitor and measure maintenance costs and adjust plans accordingly to adhere to budgets.
    • Analyze trends in equipment operating and maintenance functions such as breakdown, preventative maintenance, corrective maintenance, availability, mean time between failure, mean time to repair and others as directed. Maintain database of KPIs and ensure data integrity.
    • Identify increasing maintenance costs for pieces of equipment and if merited participate in preparing cost justification reports to support sustaining capital expenditures to replace items. Implement and justify capital spares purchases to ensure adequate quantity are on site for emergency and planned work.
    • Compile, update and distribute backlog reports and other mandated control reports.
    • Create and continually update maintenance programs and schedules and equipment parts lists in the Maintenance Management system.
    • Identify opportunities for continuously improving of maintenance processes and systems, put measures in place to improve deficiencies, and track improvements as required to follow through on improvement initiatives
    • Supervise parts coordination, plan and project execution and task setup to ensure alignment with plans. Monitor plans being executed to ensure compliance. Report and act on deficiencies to plan execution.
    • Be versatile and capable to fill in for all other department planners when required or when requested.
    • Work closely with group to manage all capital spare components, track installation, manage all major component cores and implement strategies to improve process.
    • Work closely with all other department planners to ensure long term plans and schedules are properly merged with short term plans and schedules effectively.
    • Extensive experience performing and organizing all maintenance activities and logistics for maintenance being performed on Cat 6030 face shovels, MD6290 drills, 793F/777G trucks, 14H/14M/16H/16M Motor graders, D6/D9T/D10T TT tractors, 390D/320D/345D Excavators, 994K/992K/988H/950/930 Wheel loaders, 740B Articulated trucks, Skid steers, Telehandlers, Epiroc/Atlas Copco PV271 and D65 drills, Terex/Grove Cranes, man lifts and Western Star 6900XD Tractors with B-Train trailers

    Main Qualifications

    • Candidates must have a mechanical or electrical post-secondary education (college or university) or registered red seal trade/journeyperson (e.g. mechanic) in a relevant trade.
    • 5 or more years of maintenance planning, parts management, equipment maintenance and scheduling experience would be beneficial.
    • Maintenance Management Professional (MMP) or similar certification would be considered an asset
    • Must have strong analytical skills
    • Strong communication skills (verbal and written) 
    • Experience supervising execution teams is mandatory.
    • Must have exceptional experience using SAP and Office suite software
    • Extensive experience using Microsoft Excel, Project, Access and project related software required
