    This position is responsible for maintenance of facilities and equipment owned and operated by Baffinland Iron Mines. Improving safety, productivity and reducing costs of operations and maintenance by identifying weaknesses in the equipment and system and working with the supervisors to eliminate waste.

     

    This is a permanent position based at site with a 2 week Fly-In, Fly-Out rotation.

     

    Main Accountabilities

    • Perform all tasks assigned by the Supervisor.
    • Ensure that all work is performed in a manner that conforms to all site safety policies and procedures.
    • Communicate to team members and supervisor unsafe conditions as soon as identified and diligently eliminate conditions that would cause incidents or affect productivity.
    • Develop safe work procedures and provide technical/operational input into operations and maintenance procedures and systems to maximize reliability of equipment at site.
    • Assist in the development actions for improvement in incident prevention, environmental performance, production, output quality, production costs, and capital expenditures.
    • Monitor the performance of work, and provide encouragement and suggestions improve the capability of the team. Assist in the requirement and training of team members, keeping them from inadvertently causing incidents. Suggest corrective actions and training to supervisor.
    • Work in extreme low temperatures down to minus 40 Celsius.
    • Physically able to use all standard hand tools and lifting up to 25 kg.
    • Operation of equipment for 12 hour long daily shifts for a two week period.

     

    Main Qualifications

    • Must have valid interprovincial Red Seal certification or certified journeyman certification
    • High School Diploma or GED
    • A constant commitment to approaching tasks safely and intelligently
    • Ability and commitment to work rotating 12-hour shifts (Both days and nights)
    • Relevant experience, preferably in heavy industry/mining or a millwright trade
    • Millwright licensing or technical training/schooling preferred
    • Competency in welding, basic hydraulics, equipment alignment, pumps, and mechanical/electrical fundamentals and best practice
