Reporting to the Ore Handling Superintendent, ore handling supervisor is responsible for safe and efficient operation of side-dump ore haul fleet in delivering budgeted tonnes of iron ore from Mary River to Milne Port


The position is site based with 3 weeks on / 3 weeks off rotation.

Main Accountabilities

  • Promote and assure safe and efficient use of all equipment operations in a manner that will minimize equipment downtime.
  • Daily management of operations within ore haulage to port.
  • Meet objectives and comply with; safety plans, incident reporting process, policy/procedure reviews, etc.
  • Consistently and equitably apply all BIM policies procedures; inculcate, support and verify safe and efficient work practices by visible, felt and engaging leadership.
  • Verify that appropriate field level risk assessments, Job Hazard Analyses (JHA’s) and other risk control tools are used for every job.
  • Investigate incidents and ensure execution of corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
  • Communicate to the manager/superintendent any technical deviations and risks within area of expertise and help coordinate corrective measures.
  • Using practical judgment within the limits set by the department, to manage problems and issues in a timely fashion.
  • Mentor and provide performance feedback to team members. Coach and develop employees on the standards of behavior, and take corrective actions as required.
  • Provide input and work collaboratively with peers and other departments to achieve capital, production and/or maintenance projects/schedules.
  • Assess and evaluate operators to determine training requirements.
  • Prepare reports and information on production targets and daily performance.

Main Qualifications

  • College Diploma in Engineering or Maintenance or Mining
  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering preferred
  • Professional Shift Boss or Supervisor Ticket in Nunavut (or with the capability to register).
  • 7+ years of mining experience with at least 3-5 years in a supervisory role.
  • Experience and ability to plan and schedule equipment and resources.
  • Bulk handling or trucking operation and maintenance experience.
  • Effective written and oral communication skills.
  • Demonstrated leadership and interpersonal skills.
  • Fly-in, fly-out operation experience
  • Experience working with a culturally diverse workforce.
  • Experience working in remote mining sites
  • Work in extreme temperatures and working in Arctic
  • Experience working with aboriginal people and communities would be an asset.
  • Experience working in remote mining camps.
