Reporting to the Mine Technical Services Superintendent, the Water Treatment Plant Co-op student is responsible for supporting the operation of a water treatment facility at the Mary River Mine.

 

Main Accountabilities

  • Operate the WRF water treatment plant for discharge of water from the pit or WRF pond
  • Support the operation of a water treatment facility, which includes the operation of pumps, hoses, blowers, reactor tanks, agitators, pipelines, etc
  • Support the addition of reagents (lime slurry, polymer, etc.) to mix tanks, and inspect tank levels
  • Conduct basic repairs on the plant
  • Support the collection of regulatory water samples and ensure compliance with MDMER limits for all water discharged
  • Support in the development of standard operating procedures as required
  • Monitor and request inventory of reagents and spare parts during operations
  • Coordinate with maintenance and electrical group for any required servicing
  • All other duties as required

Main Qualifications

  • Junior standing or above working toward an Engineering degree (mining, civil, chemical, ) or related field in sciences (chemistry, environment, geology, etc.
  • Ability to work independently in a remote site environment under all weather conditions
  • Is in good physical health, able to lift a minimum of 50lbs
  • Experience in data analysis and process optimization would be considered an asset
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Good problem solving skills and high degree of personal initiative
  • Rotation may involve night shift work
