Reporting to the Procurement Manager, the Senior Procurement Specialist will be responsible for the demand planning, category strategies, execution of sourcing activities, recommendation of award, negotiations of contracts, monitoring of contract performance, category risk management and supplier development activities for assigned categories.  As a senior member of the team, the Senior Procurement Specialist will support the training and development of peers, coordinate and participate in department initiatives, and develop strong working relationships within and outside of the company.

Main Accountabilities

  • Manage and carry out sourcing activities for materials, equipment and services for assigned items, and support peers during gap and surge periods.
  • Support the annual inventory replenishment cycle, preparing demand planning, inventory forecasts, replenishment strategies, payment structures and risk management activities for annual sealift.
  • Oversee product testing to increase competition and approve alternative sources of supply, develop new sources of supply and carry out risk assessments on new vendors.
  • Work closely with the technical user teams by analyzing their procurement needs, ordering lead times, and procurement planning.
  • Execute sourcing plans in accordance with company timelines.
  • Following the Policies and Procedures, carry out RFX’s and RFP’s, following competitive guidelines with supported documentation.
  • Build an understanding of suppliers' facilities and production processes, identifying opportunities and continuous improvement in line with Baffinland's requirements and path forward.
  • Review specifications and prepare sourcing documents and addendums to ensure compliance with Federal, Provincial and local requirements and in accordance with Procurement Policy and Procedure.
  • Review RFP submissions, prepare summaries and recommendations, ensuring that awarding of contracts comply with Procurement Policy and Procedures and approval requirements
  • Provide technical advice on the preparation of specifications, transactions, possible vendors and methodologies and maintain up-to-date category strategies for assigned commodities
  • Provide training and support to junior members of the team
  • Responsible for assisting and identifying opportunities for improvement, participating in procedural projects within supply chain team; support implementation of the projects
  • Ensure proper and complete documentation for working and audit purposes
  • Monitor and share key performance indicators to understand key performance areas of responsibility.
  • Any other duties/projects/assignment as discussed with the Department Head

 

Main Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Commerce, Purchasing and/or Supply Chain Management required
  • From 5 to 8 years' experience in industrial purchase and expediting of goods and contract administration
  • From 5 to 7 years' experience in mining
  • Familiarity with ERP systems and SAP knowledge preferred 
  • Formal Training in procurement & contract management preferred
  • SCMP or CPP designation or equivalent preferred
