Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer, the Manager Cost Control is responsible for providing cost control and financial control support by analyzing and forecasting project costs, as well as developing, preparing and collecting cost data for monthly progress reports and overall status repots to the management team for review.

 

This role is a corporate positon and based out of Oakville, ON.

 

Main Accountabilities

  • Setting up the systems and standard reports.
  • Resetting the ore Model and up to date costs.
  • Work with ops to create cost reports and variance explanations.
  • Write business case for all changes relative to budget, capex (Capital) projects and Continuous improvement projects
  • Creating and communicating key performance indicators (KPI’s) to align with cost control and Continuous Improvement Projects.
  • Track value from all improvements. Attain Chief Financial Officer (CFO) sign off of annual value generated for business.
  • Analyze costs and fee Continuous improvement process an budgeting
  • Educate managers and workforce of cost accounting and control and be their direct support.
  • Set up Fuel accounting system to accurately track.
  • Assist manager in accounting of OPEX (Operations cost) versus CAPEX (Capital cost)
  • Educate Corporate Controller and the team with necessary inputs for cost reporting.
  • Eliminate timing error currently evident in cost accounting.
  • Work directly with managers for budgeting and annual planning.
  • Facilitate monthly and weekly cost reviews with managers
  • Working with onsite costs analysts, create a forecasting tool to accurately predict month end costs on weekly basis
  • Responsible for timely coordination, collection, compilation and proofing of reporting information that includes, cost reports, cost/cash flow targets and forecasts, variance explanations.
  • Responsible for on specific scopes of project cash flow and cost control objectives are delivered.
  • Ensuring that relevant cost management procedures and reporting requirements are incorporated.
  • Travel to mine site in Nunavut (every Second Month) is a requirement of the position.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Main Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or Business.
  • Certified Professional Accountant (CPA) designation.
  • 5 - 7 years of Accounting experience.
  • Project Management Professional Designation preferred.
  • Proficiency with MS Office.
  • SAP experience preferred.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to multi-task and prioritize several ongoing responsibilities.
  • Organizational skills & attention to detail.
  • Proven budgetary skills, cost control, and effective reporting skills.
  • Arctic experience would be beneficial.
  • Experience working with aboriginal people and communities would be an asset.
