The Security Supervisor is responsible for the direct supervision of all on duty Security personnel who ensure the safety and security of site personnel and protection of Baffinland equipment and property against theft and vandalism

Main Accountabilities

  • Build and maintain positive working relationship with management, supervisors, employees and contractors while finding solutions to security challenges in the workplace.
  • Use critical thinking and problem-solving skills to address issues
  • Coordinate and manage daily activities of security staff
  • Establish priorities of security patrols and ensure that team adheres to them.
  • Ensure site and security personnel are in compliance with BIM security requirements including policies, programs, standards and procedures
  • Ensure Security policies, programs, standards and procedures are communicated and implemented consistently across the site including departments and contractors.
  • Ensure a process for regular audits and inspections of Security policies, standards, procedures, risk assessments, and legal safety requirements is developed and implemented, including appropriate corrective action for deficiencies and documentation.
  • Manage the storage of confidential information and documentation
  • Ensure that security personnel complete walking patrols and inspections of facilities and equipment as required
  • Ensure site, Aerodrome and marine security-related documents, such as incident reports and inspections are completed and stored in the Security database
  • Train subordinate security professionals or other organization members in security rules and procedures.
  • Assist with new employee training by positively reinforcing successful performance and giving respectful and encouraging coaching as needed
  • Identify, investigate, or resolve site, Aerodrome and marine security breaches.
  • Monitor site, Aerodrome and marine areas to ensure compliance with internal security policies, licensing requirements, or applicable government security requirements, policies, and directives.
  • Analyze and evaluate site security, Aerodrome and marine operations to identify risks or opportunities for improvement.
  • Ensure Port MARSEC security protocols are in place and followed
  • Collect and analyze site, Aerodrome and marine security data to determine security needs, security program goals, or program accomplishments.
  • Ongoing evaluation of security personnel performance
  • Direct site, Aerodrome and marine security activities to safeguard company assets, employees, guests, or others on company property.
  • Request security-related supplies and equipment for order as needed.
  • Communicate site wide Code 1 Emergency notification over site radio systems
  • Communicate with Incident Command Center and Incident Commander during Code 1 Site Emergencies
  • Provide security personnel with a list of responsibilities at the beginning of each shift.
  • Mentor security personnel on how to manage adverse situations calmly and effectively.
  • Secure and monitor gun lockup in security office
  • Provide visitors with advice to ensure their security.
  • Ensure that unauthorized personnel are not granted access to premises.
  • Provide support in emergency and evacuation services by providing site personnel with evacuation instructions.
  • Guide security staff to act appropriately during emergencies.
  • Respond immediately to alarm system activations and perform checks in areas of concern.
  • Monitor site personnel for misconduct and harassing behaviour
  • Conduct site, camp and room searches as directed by Health, Safety and Security Superintendent
  • Manage confiscated contraband material is security lock up
  • Ensure that all security cameras around site are sensitively monitored.
  • Ensure effective maintenance and control of security equipment and keys
  • Monitor Aerodrome security X-Ray and baggage checks
  • Report any contraband material found during baggage checks to Health, Safety and Security Superintendent
  • Manage aerodrome inbound/outbound personnel boarding and check in and out in collaboration with Flight Operations
  • Conduct security administration such as the issuance of room cards
  • Ensure initial camp orientation is conducted with all new hires arriving to site
  • Maintain logs of Tote Road traffic
  • Ensure security personnel have and follow all uniform requirements
  • Communicate incidents and information to the Health, Safety and Security Superintendent as necessary
  • Provide technical guidance to security team as required

Main Qualifications

  • Diploma in Security or related field preferred 
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of Security Supervisory related experience
  • First Aid training
  • Possession and Acquisition Licence (PAL)
  • Incident investigation experience
  • Conflict resolution training
  • WSCC supervisor training
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite products such as Word, Excel and PowerPoint
