Reporting to the Environmental Superintendent the role will be responsible for key regulatory reporting for the Project. This role works closely with the technical specialists and operations management to ensure accurate and timely reports are submitted. The Environmental Regulatory Specialist will provide expertise and support to Operations and Projects by leading the implementation of the Environmental Management System. The specialist will be up to date with current licences and regulations that may effect reporting, and engage in training opportunities with junior staff and operations workers. 

• Lead the coordination and development of regulatory reports and applications required for Project operations including regulatory requirements stipulated by the Commercial Lease, Project Certificate, water licences and other regulatory instruments, legislation and approvals (i.e. DFO authorizations, NPRI, GHG, MDMER, etc.).
• Ensure the Company is compliant with applicable environmental regulations and legislation by maintaining up to date information and communicating implications on Project operations to management, and audit site activities. Liaise with applicable regulatory authorities on compliance issues and communications.
• Assists in implementation of environmental monitoring programs and oversight by establishing the team regulatory requirements and expectations.
• Review project technical documents and new activities to ensure compliance with all federal and territorial acts and regulations.
• Update Project environmental management and monitoring plans to reflect project operations and procedures by developing content.
• Maintain the corrective action register for Operations and projects personnel by entering the actions, tracking completion, and communicating status.
• Support the development and updating of the departmental risk register for environmental scope by identifying environmental risks in all activities of the business.
• Complete, review and update environmental procedures and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)
• Manage the Environmental and Project Land Tenure and Heritage process review by reviewing applications by the Operations team.
• Review environmental commitment register and track implementation for site operations.

• Bachelor’s or Masters degree in Environmental science, engineering or related program is required
• Professional designation is an asset
• Significant experience in environmental regulatory reporting / auditing required
• Significant experience in mining industry
• Experience in Nunavut regulatory framework a significant asset
• Experience in developing, monitoring and auditing environmental practices and performance.
• Experience in large regulatory document creatrion.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook)
• Knowledge of current environmental legislation (Nunavut and Federal) and regulatory reporting is required
• Communication skills: Ability to communicate clearly and effectively both written and verbal, for conveying ideas, instructions, and information to colleagues, external parties, and superiors.

Compensation for this position is aligned with Baffinland’s approved compensation framework and current market conditions. Final compensation will be determined based on:
• Relevant education and certifications
• Related training and experience
• Internal equity considerations

This Nunavut community-based role is eligible Northern Allowance, comprehensive health and dental coverage, and pension participation.
