Main Accountabilities

  • Develop plain language summaries to be shared with local communities and external stakeholders by reviewing and translating technical environmental monitoring reports;
  • Provide guidance and oversight to environmental consultants on all marine and terrestrial environment monitoring programs; adapt monitoring programs to new requirements as a result of EA processes; complete management plan updates and coordinate intervener responses;
  • Ensure compliance with terms and conditions related to environmental monitoring, and implement environmental requirements from changes to the terms and conditions, new commitments, amended agreements or when required for approval;
  • Ensure data management from monitoring programs is securely managed in‐house, in accordance with company policy;
  • Develop strategies and work with external parties to increase community‐based monitoring initiatives;
  • Work with direct reports to coordinate logistics for environmental working group meetings and participate in meetings, as required;
  • Work with direct reports to implement environmental field monitoring programs and liaise with Site Environment and Operations to harmonize the planning and execution and continuous improvement of monitoring programs;
  • Provide leadership to a team of direct reports by hiring, establishing objectives, providing performance feedback, and delivering disciplinary actions
  • Manage the shipping monitor program by organizing and participating in all faucets including: the Start and
  • End of Shipping Season Meetings; Community Based Shipping Monitor Program; NIRB initiated or directed Shipping Meetings/Workshops; and provide guidance on the hiring and oversight of shipping monitors throughout the shipping season
  • Coordinate with the Approvals Manager and others to ensure consistency between the EIS and environmental authorization applications and approvals (e.g. Fisheries Authorizations, Disposal at Sea Permits, Approvals to Construct Railways);

Main Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in environmental science, sustainable development, biology, engineering, or related field
  • Master’s degree in environmental science, sustainable development, biology, engineering, or related field
  •  Minimum eight (8) years of relevant work experience in the environmental or sustainable development field;
  • Experience managing a team of skilled professionals;
  • Experience managing consultants and/or contractors;
  • Experience resolving technical issues with multiple parties;
  • Experience with environmental assessments and regulatory reporting;
  •  Experience managing risks;
  • Experience in the mining sector is an asset.
