Reporting to the Project Geologist, the Geologist (fixed term) works closely with other Geologists, Field Assistants and consultants to conduct geologic investigations and sampling programs. This role will also will provide support to the rest of the Exploration group as needed in the field. This role requires work outdoors, potentially in inclement weather conditions, up to 75% of the time. The job can be physically demanding and it requires walking long distances, lifting of objects up to 50 pounds and helicopter travel. This role will be offered as a fixed term. This is a site base role on a 3 week in and 3 week out rotation at our Mary River Mine in Nunavut and the surrounding areas.

 

Main Accountabilities

  • Adhering to Baffinland’s Standard Operating Procedures, log drill core and prepare it for splitting and sampling for eventual shipment to off-site analytical laboratories.
  • Adhering to Baffinland’s Standard Operating Procedures, conduct prospecting and/or mapping traverses, sample collection and processing for eventual shipment off-site to analytical laboratories.
  • Aid the Exploration team in the processing of core by assisting with the movement of core boxes through the workflow of logging, splitting, sampling, shipping of samples and storage of core.

Main Qualifications

  • Currently enrolled or a recent graduate of a Bachelor’s degree in Earth Sciences, Geology or related field
  • Fire Arms Certificate (FAC) or Possession and Acquisition License (PAL) is required.
  • Minimum one field school or seasonal exploration contract preferred
