Reporting to the Site Services Manager, the Site Services Superintendent will lead day-to-day site transportation and logistics services across the mine and port site. This includes the management of site aerodrome activities, material transfers, bulk fuel transfers, equipment movement and sealift activities.

 

The role ensures the safe, efficient, cost-effective and environmentally responsible movement of personnel, equipment, fuel and materials to support uninterrupted mining operations. By working closely with internal teams and external partners, the Superintendent will prioritize work and develop contingency plans in the event of weather events, equipment failures or other unplanned events.

 

Main Accountabilities

• Manage day-to-day site services operations including aerodrome, material and equipment moves and fuel transfers in a safe and environmentally responsible manner
• Ensure all safety incidents, hazards, and near misses are reported, investigated, and addressed through 5 why investigations and corrective actions
• Coordinate the maintenance and upkeep of the site roads, laydowns and aerodrome.
• Oversee annual activities including sealift and associated orders relevant to orders.
• Coordinate equipment and fuel movements between the mine and port sites
• Provide leadership, coaching, and mentorship to Supervisors, enabling the safe and effective execution of operational activities across the teams
• Promote a high-performance culture by setting clear expectations, providing regular feedback, and coaching team members
• Lead and coordinate with Travel Team and external aviation service providers for all personnel and air cargo movements
• Manage contractor performance, scope, and safety compliance
• Support the development and manage costs of site services budget
• Oversee expenditures, manage cost and drive optimization across the department
• Approve invoices and manage procurement processes
• Accountable for achieving targets related to safety, cost, schedule, and performance
• Secure appropriate manpower and equipment within departmental budget, report and provide details if required to deviate from budget plans.
• Prepare plans and procedures, and communicate objectives and information clearly and effectively.
• Provide leadership and direction to Supervisors in assessing work execution and standard procedures, identifying training needs and strengthening team capability
• Oversee all inbound and outbound logistics including freight, heavy haul, and personnel transport
• Manage aviation services and airport transportation logistics for personnel travelling to and from site
• Coordinate emergency response logistics (medevac, evacuation, etc)
• Liaise with Supervisors and Maintenance Teams to ensure serviceability of equipment and align prioritization or equipment repair with operational needs
• Maintain accurate records of site services work tasks within SAP to ensure delivery on plan and scheduled work and resource requirements
• Produce reports as required

Main Qualifications

  • High School diploma
  • Post-secondary education in Business Administration, Logistics, or Maintenance
  • Minimum one to three (5-7) years in supervisory/management role
  • Minimum one to three (3-5) years logistics and material movements
  • Minimum one to three (3-5) years cost management, reporting, budgeting, and forecasting experience
  • Strong SAP and Project Management experience considered an asset
  • Experience in the aviation operations considered an asset
  • Experience with fuel management an asset
  • Experience working in remote locations. Arctic experience would be an asset
  • Experience working with indigenous stakeholders would be an asset
  • Experience with rotational work (3-week Fly - In, Fly-Out Rotation) considered an asset

Compensation

Compensation for this position is aligned with Baffinland’s approved compensation framework and current market conditions. Final compensation will be determined based on:

  • Relevant education and certifications
  • Related training and experience
  • Internal equity considerations

This site-based role is eligible for participation in the travel benefits, site premiums, comprehensive health and dental coverage, and pension participation.
