Reporting to the Manager of Mine Operations, the Mine Superintendent is responsible for the safe, efficient and cost effective operations of all mining activities, including development work, drilling, blasting, loading, hauling, dewatering and project work; as well as detailed coordination with Mine Maintenance and Planning, Technical Services and all downstream Operations departments.
• Ensuring work procedures are followed and safety standards are adhered to (risk assessment, incident reporting & investigating, policy & procedures review, MOC, etc.).
• Complete field audits, inspections and interactions daily to ensure adherence to policy’s, procedures and safe work practices are followed.
• Investigate incidents and ensure corrective actions are executed to mitigate hazards working toward a goal of zero harm.
• Mentor and provide performance feedback and development to team members and supervisors. Monitor crew balance and ensure training requirements are met.
• Review payroll and flight planning to ensure accuracy.
• Development, review of operational plans to ensure capability and delivery.
• Work with technical teams to provide input to operational plans and designs. Review designs and processes and optimize to fit operational needs, communicate plans and review progress with supervisors.
• Manage social problems as they occur and in consultation with Human Resources, administer feedback and progressive discipline as required.
• Support the development of the annual budget and 5-year operating / capital plans. Develop capital justifications.
• Monitor the operating and capital expenditures.
• Participate to the Continuous Improvement process and implement initiatives to add value and increase the operations’ efficiency.
• Supports asset integrity reviews and development of action plans to address operational and mechanical issues.
• Support development of the department's annual execution plan with area specific goals and objectives.
• Provide input and work collaboratively with peers and other departments to achieve safety, production and cost targets.
